The Atacama Desert's fascinating landscape
The Atacama desert landscape contains of high coastal mountains that can reach 1000m high. Its full of sand and rock because of the extremely low humidity making it one of the driest places on earth that is perfect for the observatory that was built there because there is no fog so the night sky appears very clear. The Atacama Desert has a moon like landscape meaning it has many lumps and bumps in the surface; like the moon's craters.
In the Atacama desert there are some mysterious rubbing rocks that have unnaturally smooth faces, these huge boulders weigh 5 to 8 tons, so it is very un-likely to have been moved to and from water overtime making them move to the Atacama. The solution of why the rocks are so smooth is because over thousands of years they have been packed together that when there is an earthquake they would rub together to give them the smoothness that they have.
The Atacama's landscape also has crystal clear blue lagoons, hot springs, bubbling geysers and a bizzare combination of salt basins, lava flows, canyons and rock formations like the rubbing rocks.
